[Sports Today reporter Kang Taegu] The Samsung Lions rolled past the SSG Landers behind a balanced attack from both the mound and the lineup.

Samsung defeated SSG 8-0 on the road in a 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League exhibition game at Munhak Stadium in Incheon on March 16.

The win improved Samsung to 3-2 in exhibition play, while SSG dropped to 2-3 and extended its losing skid.

Starter Choi Wontae was nearly flawless, throwing five innings, allowing two hits, striking out four, issuing one walk and surrendering no runs to pick up the victory.

At the plate, Lee Jaehyun led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored.

SSG starter Jeon Young-jun absorbed the loss after 4.2 innings, giving up six hits — including two homers — striking out three, issuing no walks and allowing five runs (four earned).

Samsung grabbed control with the long ball. In the top of the third, leadoff man Ryu Ji-hyuk deposited Jeon’s second pitch, a 140 km/h (about 87.0 mph) fastball, for a solo shot. After two outs, Lee Jaehyun followed with a solo homer off a 128 km/h (about 79.5 mph) slider to left-center, pushing the lead to 2-0.

SSG never solved Choi. The visitors were retired 1-2-3 in the first. In the bottom of the second, with two outs, Im Geun-woo reached on a hit-by-pitch, but Kim Jeong-min flied out to left to end the threat.

In the third, Hong Dae-in singled and then stole a base to create a scoring chance with one out, but Choi Ji-hoon struck out and Kim Min-joon grounded out to third.

Samsung’s offense heated up in the fourth. With one out and a runner at third after Choi Hyung-woo’s double and Díaz’s grounder that advanced the runner, Kim Young-woong’s grounder to second produced another run.

In the fifth, after two outs, Kim Ji-chan doubled and Lee Jaehyun delivered an RBI single to left. Following Kim Seong-yun’s single to right and a throwing error, Lee Jaehyun raced home to make it 5-0.

Samsung added insurance in the sixth when Díaz opened the inning with a solo homer, extending the lead to 6-0. They essentially put the game away in the eighth: Jeon Byung-woo’s double, a wild pitch and Kim Young-woong’s RBI grounder to second pushed the score to 7-0.

In the ninth, Samsung widened the margin after back-to-back walks to Ryu Seung-min and Kim Heon-gon set up a two-out, runners-on-first-and-second opportunity; Kim Tae-hoon delivered an RBI single to left. SSG remained scoreless in the bottom of the ninth, and the game ended.
