[Sports Today reporter Sangpil Lee] Bucheon FC1995 (club owner: Bucheon Mayor Cho Yong-ik, hereafter Bucheon) announced on March 18 that it has taken a major step toward the future by extending defender Lee Ye-chan’s contract through 2029.
A product of Yeongdeungpo Technical High School, Lee has been a standout prospect since his high school days. In 2023 he started for title-winning teams in five competitions — beginning with the Baekwoon Cup — and anchored the back line in the first half of the High School League, the Seoul qualifiers for the National Sports Festival, the President’s Cup and the Champion of Champions tournament.
That run earned him a move to Portugal’s top flight with Portimonense SC before he graduated high school. He showed his potential by scoring on his U-23 debut and returned to Korea on loan to Bucheon for the 2025 season to begin his domestic professional career.
After appearing in three matches last season as he adapted to the K League, Bucheon judged Lee’s upside to be significant and secured him permanently with a four-year contract.
\”I watched him adjust to the league last season,\” head coach Lee Young-min said. \”I believe he will develop into a central figure in our defense. As a young player, he has the kind of energy that can lift the team’s level.\”
Lee responded, \”I’m honored to stay with Bucheon. I’ll work hard to repay the trust of the coach and the fans and become a reliable defender who can hold his own in K League 1.\”
Bucheon will host Gangwon FC at Bucheon Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m. on March 18 in Round 4 of the 2026 Hana Bank K League 1 season.
