[Sports Today reporter Shin Seo-young] Kiwoom Heroes closed out the exhibition schedule with a win.
Kiwoom defeated the visiting LG Twins 5-2 on March 24 at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul in the final game of the 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League exhibition slate.
The victory left Kiwoom and LG both with 5-1-6 records in the exhibition season; Kiwoom extended a winning stretch, while LG finished on a losing skid.
Kiwoom starter Wiles worked five shutout innings, allowing four hits and recording one strikeout to pick up the win.
Offensively, An Chi-hong carried the attack, going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, four RBIs and a run scored. Lee Joo-hyung also homered, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.
LG starter Son Joo-young took the loss, giving up five hits (one homer) and three runs (two earned) with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.
Kiwoom set the tone early with the long ball. In the top of the first, leadoff hitter Lee Joo-hyung opened with a single to right. An Chi-hong followed by turning Son Joo-young’s third pitch—a 142 km/h (about 88.3 mph) cutter—over the left-field wall for a two-run shot. Brooks added a single to center but Kiwoom couldn’t push across any more runs that inning.
Kiwoom kept the pressure on in the second. Eo Jun-seo and Kim Keon-hee delivered back-to-back singles to left. Park Han-gyeol grounded out to the pitcher, but the runner on second advanced to third, creating a 1-out, bases-at-the-corners situation. On the next play, a pickoff error by the pitcher allowed Jun-seo to score from third, extending the lead to 3-0.
Riding the momentum, Kiwoom pulled further ahead in the fourth. After one out, Kim Keon-hee singled off reliever Baek Seung-hyun. Park Han-gyeol struck out, but Lee Hyeong-jong followed with a single and Lee Joo-hyung drew a walk to load the bases with two outs. An Chi-hong then delivered a two-run RBI single to right, pushing the lead to 5-0. The inning ended when Lee Joo-hyung was thrown out trying to advance from second.
After being quiet through five innings, LG’s offense finally woke up in the sixth. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Austin drove a 140 km/h (about 87.0 mph) fastball from reliever Kim Jae-woong into the deep center-field seats for a 130 m (about 426 ft) solo homer, cutting the deficit to 5-1.
LG added another run in the ninth. With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Oh Ji-hwan drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-2. Facing a continued bases-loaded threat, Kiwoom turned to Park Jung-hoon, who induced a grounder that resulted in a shortstop-started double play on Koo Bon-hyeok to end the game and secure Kiwoom’s 5-2 win.
