[SPOTV News — Reporter Shin Won-chul] The Ulsan Whales missed a rare spotlight moment when rain forced the cancellation of their Monday Night Baseball game on the 30th. Rather than sending the fans who had shown up home, the club turned the night into a surprise autograph session.
The Whales had been set to host the KIA Tigers at Munsu Baseball Stadium at 6:30 p.m. for the nationally televised Monday Night Baseball slot. When the game was called because of rain — the franchise’s first rainout — the team quickly moved into the lobby to meet and thank the supporters who had come out.
The idea came from manager Jang Won-jin. A club representative said the session was arranged on short notice because Jang didn’t want fans who braved poor weather to leave empty-handed. Despite being a weeknight, the nationally broadcast game drew a big crowd, underlining strong local interest.
To reward fans who had been looking forward to Monday night baseball, the club staged its first-ever full-team autograph event. Key players, including Kim Dong-yeop, Kim Su-in, Byun Sang-kwon and Nam Ho, came down to the lobby to sign items and take photos with disappointed but appreciative fans.
Ulsan Whales general manager Kim Dong-jin said, “We regret that we couldn’t show the game to the fans who came on a weeknight, but thanks to Manager Jang and the players’ initiative, we were able to connect with them directly. We organized this autograph session to thank fans for making the trip, and we’ll keep working to bring joy to our supporters.”
The Whales return home for a three-game series against the KT Wiz Futures from April 4–6 at Munsu Baseball Stadium, aiming to build on their home form. Tickets are available through the Ticketlink website and mobile app, and any remaining seats can be purchased at the box office on game day.
