[Anyang=Sports Today reporter Shin Seo-young] Changwon LG saw its chance to secure the 2025-2026 regular-season crown slip away after a 74-84 road loss to Anyang Jeonggwanjang at Anyang Jeonggwanjang Arena on the 31st. Coach Jo Sang-hyun said the team will regroup and chase the title over the remaining games.
LG fell 74-84 in the matchup on the 31st, dropping the club to 35-16 and trimming their cushion to a two-game lead over second-place Jeonggwanjang (33-18).
Entering the game, LG’s magic number to clinch the regular-season title was 2; a victory would have sealed it outright, but the loss postponed that opportunity.
After the game, Coach Jo said he thought the players rushed their execution and that the team’s usual strengths were blunted by the opponent’s pressure. He praised the team’s effort overall but emphasized the need to focus on the next game. “They played a solid game today. We’ll review the mistakes, fix them, and get ready for the matchup on the 3rd against Suwon KT,” he said.
On the uncharacteristic defensive showing, Jo said the team had changed defensive calls and that players reacted slower than usual. He singled out Tamayo as someone who struggled and noted the offense didn’t flow. “Our help rotations felt late,” he added.
He also pointed to the slow start, saying the team allowed early shots to Park Ji-hoon and that they took too many ill-advised 3-pointers. Those misses contributed to the sluggish opening stretch.
Despite the setback, LG remains in a favorable position to win the regular season. The loss evened the head-to-head series with Jeonggwanjang at 3-3, but because LG’s loss came by fewer than 15 points, they retain the edge in tiebreaker points.
That reduced LG’s magic number to 1; the team needs just one more win in its final three games to clinch the title outright.
Coach Jo said he plans to give the squad a day off tomorrow and will hold video sessions with players who underperformed. He noted every opponent requires a different game plan and said the staff must figure out how to contain Williams when they face KT.
Jo added that a single loss doesn’t define the season and reminded his players to stay composed. “Recovery is the priority. SK still has the pieces to challenge for first, so we’ll monitor the race and approach the remaining games with focus,” he said.
