Translation result박용선 [Herald Economy (Pohang)=Reporter Kim Byung-jin] Park Yong-seon, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Pohang, formally launched his “Grand Unification ‘Melting Pot’ Campaign Committee” on April 18 and began active campaigning.

That afternoon at his campaign office, the “Melting Pot” committee held an appointment ceremony attended by about 200 people, including People Power Party lawmakers Kim Jung-jae and Lee Sang-hwi and campaign committee members representing a broad cross-section of society.

The event stressed a “one team” message aimed at overcoming the aftermath of a bitter party primary and reinforcing unity within the conservative camp.

Notably, former North Gyeongsang Province political vice governor Gong Won-sik, former economic vice governor Kim Soon-gyeon, and former Pohang City Council chairman Lee Chil-gu — each a former primary rival — accepted joint co-chair positions and joined the committee.

Geum Jong-ho was appointed chief of the campaign headquarters, and attorneys Geum Tae-hwan, Lee Yong-rak, and Lee Jang-hyeok were named to lead the legal support team.

Park assessed the crisis facing Pohang and pledged decisive action.

“Over time, Pohang has slipped into stagnation as businesses, the administration, political actors, and civil society became increasingly divided, even losing ground on maintaining a population near 500,000,” Park said. “If elected mayor, I will lead a comprehensive unity effort to bring business, government, and politics together to restore livelihoods and revive the local economy.”
