Park Seung-won Unites Competitors for Gwangmyeong’s Future: A New Era in Local Politics

Park Seung-won, the Democratic Party’s nominee for mayor of Gwangmyeong in Gyeonggi Province, held a \”One Team\” declaration meeting on April 18 with his former primary rivals Kim Young-jun, Ahn Seong-hwan and Yang I-won-young, launching a coordinated policy push aimed at winning the general election.

That afternoon, Park met with Kim, Ahn and Yang at his campaign office for a roundtable discussion.

The meeting was the first official gathering of the four since the primary. It was convened to put the contest behind them and to unify their efforts for a Democratic Party victory in the local elections.

Park said, \”The competition in the primary is over. Now we must move forward together in defense of Democratic Party values and for the future of Gwangmyeong.\”

He characterized the One Team declaration as more than political unity, calling it a responsible policy alliance for Gwangmyeong’s future.

He identified key policy priorities: restarting stalled redevelopment and reconstruction projects; transforming transportation infrastructure; building a foundation for future industries; and linking those efforts with third-phase new-town development. \”The next four years will be a turning point in the city’s structural transformation,\” he added.

The other former primary candidates also signaled their willingness to cooperate to secure victory in the general election, expressing shared support for strengthening Democratic Party governance at the local level and for backing the national government’s policy agenda.

Park added, \”The changes in Gwangmyeong must ultimately improve residents’ quality of life. We will now pursue that on a larger scale as one Democratic Party team.\”

Going forward, Park said he will comprehensively review and incorporate the pledges the other candidates advanced during the primary, broaden his policy platform, and formalize preparations for the general election under a \”Democratic Party One Team\” campaign structure.
