K League 2026: Can Bucheon FC Overcome FC Seoul’s Challenge? Insights and Predictions

[EPN Enpinow reporter Yoon Dong-geun] Bucheon FC travels to the Seoul World Cup Stadium on April 21 for a Round 9 road match in the 2026 Hana One Q K League 1, when they face FC Seoul.

This will be Bucheon’s first official K League 1 meeting with Seoul, marking the club’s inaugural appearance on the Sangam pitch.

Bucheon, sitting fifth in the table with 10 points, drew 2-2 with Incheon United in their most recent outing. After conceding twice in the first half, Shin Jae-won and Gabriel each scored in the second to pull the team level and secure a point.

Coach Lee Young-min has repeatedly urged his players to be more aggressive in attack. He said the team’s condition took priority over Seoul’s fitness and chose to keep Gallego on the bench despite Gallego’s recent full-match minutes.

Lee plans to start Seong-shin and Kazu in midfield. “Seong-shin showed good form in the last match and will be a key player against Seoul,” he said, adding that the duo’s work rate could dictate the game’s flow. He also indicated he might bring on Kim Sang-jun or Yoon Bit-garam in the second half to sustain pressure.

Shin Jae-won is set to fill the wing-back role. Although not fully fit, Lee backed him based on his goal and overall contribution in the previous match, noting the team’s limited wing-back depth due to injuries and the need for careful deployment.

Basani and Patrick are still sidelined, and Lee emphasized he won’t rush their returns. “It’s better to wait for further recovery than to risk a relapse by playing them immediately,” he said.

Strengthening the attack has been Lee’s top priority across the past eight matches. “Creating scoring chances requires some luck, but above all I keep telling the players to shoot more and move more,” he said, adding that training has focused on reworking attacking patterns.

On season objectives, Lee reiterated that securing K League 1 survival is the realistic goal, with the ideal plan being to string together four wins every four rounds.
