Choi Won-cheol, a candidate for mayor of Gongju, opened his campaign office on April 4 and said he will hold weekly Thursday briefings to present his “Four Vision” pledges for the city’s future. On April 23, he unveiled his first pledge, which emphasizes population growth, transportation and public safety.
Choi opted for regular briefings to provide clear, accurate information. His four-vision schedule is: △(April 23) implement a “Prestige Safety City Overflowing with People,” focusing on citizen safety, attracting institutions, improving daily infrastructure, and population policy; △(April 30) establish a “Vibrant Economic City” with measures for youth, small-business owners, companies and agriculture; △(May 7) create a “Happy Education and Welfare City” covering education, welfare, women’s policies and support for vulnerable groups; and △(May 14) build an “Elegant Culture and Tourism City” by expanding cultural and tourism infrastructure across regions.
As his first pledge, Choi plans to expand efforts to attract national agencies, using population increases during the eighth local-government term as a foundation. He said he will accelerate efforts to bring agencies related to the Sejong National Assembly, establish a joint training complex for national public institutions, and expedite the creation of a National Forest Fruit Research Institute.
He also intends to include Gongju (Shingwan) on the Chungcheong Regional Express Railway (CTX) to improve access to the Seoul metropolitan area, and to build the Uidang–Janggun regional highway, leveraging the scheduled completion of the Second Geumgang Bridge in 2027.
Choi plans to strengthen flood preparedness in the chronically inundated Okryong-dong area and introduce AI-based safety systems in public restrooms.
Having achieved a 97% pledge fulfillment rate, Choi said, “A mayor’s job is to build pride in Gongju and to manage responsibilities with integrity.” He will announce his second pledge on April 30, focused on establishing a Vibrant Economic City with policies for youth, small businesses, companies and agriculture.
