Seoul Mayor Publicly Rebukes Party Leader — What It Means for 2026

On the 24th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party’s candidate in the June 3 local elections, said his party leader, Jang Dong-hyuk, should now either exercise restraint or take decisive action.

That morning on TV Chosun’s YouTube channel, Oh said candidates campaigning on the ground \”honestly feel\” it would be better if Leader Jang drew less attention, because that would be more helpful to their efforts.

He noted that polls have hit record lows, saying support is the lowest since the party’s founding. Given that reality, he argued, the party leader should accept responsibility and scale back his activities — which would, in his view, actually help the campaign.

In a JTBC interview that afternoon, Oh added that with 90% or more of nominations already finalized, the central party has little role to play in the election. He predicted the party leader would likely fade from view.

Asked whether the party’s situation would improve if Jang resigned, he said it would not get better immediately, but \”the slope of the tilted playing field would not be as steep\” and the party’s foundation would be strengthened. He added that voters would likely see such a move as a sign the party was regrouping.
