South Korea’s Democratic Party condemned the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, saying that indiscriminate violence and terrorism cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

In a written statement on the 26th, chief spokesperson Kang Jun-hyun said the party was relieved the incident was contained and did not escalate into a major bloodbath. He expressed sympathy for President Trump and White House staff, who likely felt shaken by the events.

Kang warned that once parties turn to violence to resolve disputes, peace cannot be assured. He reminded readers of politics’ basic duty: to overcome differences through reasoned dialogue and democratic compromise.

He added that he hopes the incident will end any tendency to express political views through terror, and pledged that the Democratic Party will use the episode to reaffirm and practice the political principles of peace and democracy.

Earlier, on the 25th (local time), gunfire rang out during the WHCA dinner at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., forcing President Trump, the first lady and other attendees to evacuate urgently. There were no casualties, and officers subdued the shooter at the scene.
