Han Ok-mun, who lost the People Power Party primary for Yangsan mayor, has pledged to back the party’s nominee, Na Dong-yeon. The contenders who faced each other in the primary announced they would unite for the party’s success.

On the 27th, Han held a joint press conference with Na and pledged to devote their efforts to securing a People Power Party victory.

At the event, the former candidate said she would work to help Na win in order to resolve urgent issues quickly and move Yangsan toward a new future. Han emphasized the need to protect forward-looking values more steadily as the city transitions.

“It won’t be easy for the People Power Party to maintain governance in Yangsan,” Han said. “I will not abandon the citizens of Yangsan, whom I love. I am grateful to everyone who joined forces to build a truly renewed Yangsan. I will return to being one of Yangsan’s residents.”

Na Dong-yeon, speaking afterward, said that overcoming the advantages of the incumbent through a contest of good-faith competition was never easy. He acknowledged that even competitive candidates confront structural barriers and limits, which can be painful, but that Han accepted the outcome. Na said Han reached out first and expressed a desire to move forward together, and that they found common ground in the belief that Yangsan’s administration should be led by the People Power Party.

Earlier in the party primary for Yangsan mayor, Han Ok-mun lost twice—once in 2022 and again this year—while Na Dong-yeon secured the party’s nomination.

Han Ok-mun, who previously ran in the mayoral primary, has served as chair of the Yangsan City Council and as a member of the South Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly.
