Democratic Party candidate Woo Seong-bin, running for Gijang County mayor, has emphasized generational change, highlighting his national profile and connections within the central political establishment.

On the 6th, Woo said Gijang needs a new growth force to lead its development and described himself as that force.

Political observers say Woo leads his rivals in name recognition.

As a county councilor in 2018, Woo drew nationwide attention when a public exchange with former Gijang County head Oh Gyu-seok spread across social media. Analysts say his forceful questioning and blunt remarks helped establish his combative image.

Recently, he has moved away from that hardline persona, widening his appeal by emphasizing communicative leadership and a policy-focused agenda.

Woo argued, \”If the opposing candidate is someone handpicked by entrenched local elites who have monopolized regional resources, I am the candidate who will deliver development for Gijang.\”

He also stressed that he has direct ties to the central government through networks that include National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik and Minister of Planning and Budget Park Hong-geun, calling himself a candidate of a different caliber.

Local political observers predict the Gijang mayoral race will likely pit established regional organizations against advocates of generational change.
