[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Jong-guk] A dual-heritage international who had been preparing for the CONCACAF World Cup has seen his season cut short.

Borussia Mönchengladbach announced on the 29th that Kastrop has been handed a three-match suspension. The German Football Association’s disciplinary committee imposed the ban, which rules Kastrop out for the remainder of Mönchengladbach’s Bundesliga fixtures this season.

On the 25th, Kastrop was sent off in stoppage time of the second half during the Round 31 away match against Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena. After taking down Wolfsburg’s Daghim with a tackle from behind, Kastrop then committed another tackle from behind on Wolfsburg’s Kumbedi. The referee issued a red card and ordered him off.

This was Kastrop’s second dismissal of the season, following a red card in the October match against Bayern Munich. German outlets, including SPOX, called him a repeat offender after the Mönchengladbach–Wolfsburg game and warned that the red card could have serious consequences. A red card typically leads to a two-match suspension, but the German FA could impose additional sanctions. With the three-match ban, Kastrop’s season is effectively over.

RP Online noted on the 29th that Kastrop’s second sending-off this season likely influenced the German FA’s disciplinary decision. The outlet added that Kastrop became the 10th player in Bundesliga history to be sent off more than once in a single season, joining players such as Dahlin, Effenberg, Sopić, Xhaka, Pléa and Itakura.

Borussia Mönchengladbach sit 11th out of 18 teams in the Bundesliga this season with a 7-11-13 record (32 points). They are six points clear of the relegation zone and 16th-place FC St. Pauli (26 points). With three league matches left — against Dortmund, Augsburg and Hoffenheim — Mönchengladbach now must cope without Kastrop, who has been a regular on the flank.
