[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Jong-guk] Bayern Munich’s defense has come under intense scrutiny as the club prepares for a Champions League rematch with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Bayern played to a 3-3 draw on the 2nd at the Allianz Arena in Munich in their Bundesliga Round 32 meeting with Heidenheim. Kim Min-jae completed the full 90 minutes. Bayern fell behind after conceding two first-half goals to bottom-placed Heidenheim, then fought back and snatched a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer to salvage a hard-earned point. Since the Round 31 meeting with Mainz on the 26th of last month, Bayern have conceded three or more goals in three consecutive competitive matches, allowing 11 goals across those games.

The second leg of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League semifinal against PSG is scheduled for the 7th at Bayern’s home ground. Bayern head into that match on the back of a 4-5 loss in the first leg in Paris on the 29th of last month, when they conceded five goals.

German outlets including Spox reported on the 4th that criticism of Bayern’s back line has intensified, but Joshua Kimmich is keeping his cool. Kimmich made it clear he has no intention of changing Bayern’s core playing style, the outlets said, noting that recent results speak for themselves: three conceded to Mainz, five to PSG and three to Heidenheim have exposed defensive frailties.

Kimmich stressed the team won’t overhaul its approach in three days just to sit back and defend. “We’re down by one after the first leg and we must score,” he said. “We’ll do whatever it takes to beat PSG — whether it’s a stylish win or a gritty one.”

He added that the defensive issues were already discussed weeks ago and that the club plans to make several longer-term adjustments while analyzing the situation. Kimmich also warned that PSG’s three frontline attackers and both wing-backs are exceptionally quick, which will be a key factor in the rematch.

With Bayern signaling they will take the game to PSG, sporting director Eberl reiterated the club’s philosophy. “We can’t — and don’t want to — change the team’s DNA,” he said. “Football is about attacking. We could play more defensively, but we choose to play attacking football.”
