Reuters reported on May 6, citing an official document, that the shooter at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner attended by President Donald Trump may have been partly motivated by anger over a possible war with Iran. In a preliminary DHS intelligence-analysis assessment obtained by Reuters, authorities concluded that the suspect, Cole Allen, harbored multiple social and political grievances. The assessment said Allen’s social-media posts criticizing a potential war with Iran may have contributed to his decision to carry out the attack. The preliminary assessment, labeled a “significant incident report,” was dated April 27 and was obtained by the nonprofit Property of the People through a public records request and shared with Reuters. U.S. authorities, including the FBI, have not publicly detailed Allen’s motives. Reporters have only received a summary of an email he sent to his family the night of the incident. In the email Allen wrote, “I will no longer allow pedophiles, rapists, and traitors to soil my hands with their crimes,” and he suggested he was targeting President Trump and senior administration officials. A senior official said the FBI is closely examining Allen’s linked social-media accounts, including BlueSky, to determine his motives. In the weeks leading up to the attack, that account posted a range of anti-Trump messages, criticizing not only a potential war with Iran but also the administration’s immigration enforcement policies. It also included posts calling for Trump’s impeachment after his April 7 warning to Iran that “a civilization will disappear.” #Trump #Shooting #Dinner #FBI #Iran #War Yonhap News TV story tips and inquiries: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23; So Jay-hyung (sojay@yna.co.kr)
