[CBC News] Ripple (XRP) is drawing renewed attention.
According to crypto news site CoinGape, XRP is being used as a fundraising vehicle by political campaigns ahead of the U.S. midterm elections in November 2026. David Schwartz, Ripple’s former chief technology officer (CTO), reportedly donated XRP to John Deaton, who is running for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts.
CoinGape said Schwartz recently transferred XRP to Deaton but did not disclose the exact amount. Deaton has been a vocal supporter of Ripple for roughly six years, dating to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s lawsuit against Ripple filed in December 2020.
The outlet reports that on May 15, Deaton used X (formerly Twitter) to solicit small donations for his Massachusetts Senate campaign.
CoinGape quoted Deaton as saying, “This campaign is powered by people who believe Massachusetts deserves a better choice, donating $25 (approximately 33,333 KRW), $50 (approximately 66,667 KRW), and $100 (approximately 133,333 KRW).”
Deaton previously ran for the same Senate seat in November 2024 but lost to Elizabeth Warren. CoinGape noted that Warren does not intend to run in November 2026, potentially opening a new path for Deaton.
CoinGape also suggested that Deaton’s persistent calls for the SEC to drop its suit against Ripple could encourage greater support from XRP holders.
