After the government concluded that the projectile that struck the South Korean vessel HMM Namu was likely an Iranian anti-ship missile, the Democratic Party of Korea said, “We express strong regret to the Iranian government and call for an immediate apology and accountable action.”

In a written briefing on the afternoon of the 27th, chief spokesperson Kang Jun-hyun said, “Our examination of debris recovered locally found components bearing markings believed to be from an Iranian manufacturer. The paint and the warhead’s shape also closely resemble Iranian-made munitions. We express strong regret that a weapon presumed to be Iranian was used to attack a vessel carrying South Korean citizens.”

He added, “The Iranian government bears clear responsibility: weapons it produces and controls threatened our citizens and damaged our assets. This conduct runs directly counter to the basic principle of international law protecting innocent civilians and civilian vessels.”

He continued, “We urge the Iranian government to cooperate actively with a full and final investigation into who carried out this attack and why. It must ensure the safety of the South Korean ship and crew still stranded in the Strait of Hormuz and take steps to allow their immediate return.”
