[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Jin-seong] The Los Angeles Dodgers once again proved why they’re the team to beat, extending their runaway lead in the National League West.

On May 30 (Korean time), the Dodgers topped the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 in the opener of a three-game weekend series at Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The victory was their sixth straight, improving their record to 37-20.

They increased their lead to 4.5 games over the second-place San Diego Padres in the NL West. After a close stretch with San Diego, the Dodgers have begun to pull away. Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Shohei Ohtani and Will Smith each hit solo homers to account for all four runs. Starter Justin Robleski went seven innings, allowed one hit (a solo homer), struck out nine and gave up one run to pick up his seventh win of the season (7-2).

Leadoff hitter Ohtani opened the bottom of the first against Philadelphia starter Zack Wheeler. Down 1-2 in the count, he chased an outside, low curve and struck out. Two outs later, Freeman put the Dodgers on the board with a solo shot to left-center — his eighth of the year.

In the bottom of the second, with one out and nobody on, Muncy launched a solo homer to right-center for his 13th of the season. Then, in the third with one out and Los Angeles leading 2-0, Ohtani drove a Wheeler splitter over the right-field wall for a solo homer — his 10th — marking his second straight game with a homer after his May 28 blast against the Colorado Rockies.

In the fifth, leadoff man Will Smith hit a solo shot to right-center for his sixth. The Phillies answered in the sixth when Kyle Schwarber crushed a solo homer to center for his 22nd. In the eighth, Brandon Marsh doubled and, after two outs, Steward Beroa delivered an RBI single to center to pull Philadelphia closer, but they could not complete the comeback.

Edgardo Henriquez and Alex Vesia recorded holds, and lefty Tanner Scott — who has regained his form this year — closed out the game for the save. The Dodgers showed no visible gap after optioning Kim Hye-seong to Triple-A earlier in the day. Alex Freeland started at second and hit ninth, went 0-for-2 and was replaced by Miguel Rojas.
