Cathay Pacific Unveils ‘Spirit of Hong Kong’ Aircraft: A Tribute to 80 Years of Connection

Cathay Pacific unveiled its third special-livery aircraft, Spirit of Hong Kong, at Incheon International Airport to celebrate its 80th anniversary. It’s the latest in a series of commemorative liveries, following the A350 and a Boeing 747 freighter.

The airline teamed up with the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, Hong Kong’s flagship arts and culture organization, to create the design. Inspired by the “Gallery in the Skies” concept featured in Cathay’s next-generation Aria Suite business seat, the entire fuselage was treated as a single piece of artwork. The livery visually tells Cathay’s 80-year story of connecting people and cities.

Yang Seok-ho, Cathay’s Korea country manager; Kim Yun-ho, head of the Hong Kong Tourism Board office; and Jo Eun-byul, director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Seoul, attended the reveal. Vintage uniforms were on display, from a 1950s Air Force gray long-dress uniform to the red-and-orange skirt outfits of the 1990s. Passengers traveling to Hong Kong on the commemorative aircraft received limited-edition 80th-anniversary stickers.

Cathay Pacific will increase the Incheon–Hong Kong route from four daily flights to five, starting March 30.

“We created this to share our 80-year journey with customers and to reimagine the flying experience,” Yang said. “We will continue to introduce distinctive premium travel experiences.”
