Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on March 28 that it’s opening Namsuheon (南水軒), a hanok lodging and traditional culture experience village.
Located in Namsu-dong, Paldal-gu, Namsuheon is a hanok-style experiential cultural complex with one basement level and two aboveground floors, covering about 2,640 m² (approximately 28,418 sq ft). The ground floor houses shared spaces like a gallery café and a hanok library, while the second floor features 12 hanok guest rooms and six outdoor spa areas.
The city chose the name Namsuheon after public consultation, combining \”Namsu\” (南水), which refers to the area south of the Suwoncheon stream, and \”heon\” (軒), meaning house.
City officials plan to drive tourism by linking programs at Namsuheon with nearby cultural assets such as the Suwon City Media Center and the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival.
The city held an opening ceremony the day before, attended by Mayor Lee Jae-jun, Democratic Party Rep. Kim Young-jin, and city and provincial council members.
Mayor Lee said he expects Namsuheon to become a stay-focused tourism hub that blends tradition with modern comforts and helps boost the local economy while revitalizing the downtown.
