Gochang County in North Jeolla Province, South Korea, has rolled out a city tour bus — but this is not just about getting people from point A to B. It’s a strategic move to turn quick visits into leisurely, stay-worthy experiences.

Launching full service on April 4, the \”Healinghae\” Gochang City Tour breaks from the usual fast-transfer model. Instead, the itinerary itself is the attraction: a curated day meant for unwinding, not rushing.

At the core of the route is a single idea — encourage people to linger. Stops like Gochang Eupseong, the Hwang Yun-seok Library, and Sangha Farm aren’t presented as a checklist. They’re threaded together around healing and rest to naturally extend visitors’ time in the area.

That choice reflects a broader travel trend: people are shifting from consumption-driven sightseeing to restorative, experience-led trips. By centering the tour on \”healing tourism,\” Gochang is doing more than offering a new product — it’s reshaping the county’s image.

The operation itself reinforces that goal. The daily loop departs the temporary Gochang terminal at 10:00 a.m., visits key sites throughout the day, and returns by 5:00 p.m. A professional guide accompanies every run, adding depth and context to the experience.

The county also built in flexibility with seasonal routing to match demand spikes and local festivals — for example, the green barley field festival and cherry blossom season — so visitors can connect directly with peak moments.

One practical note: the service is reservation-only, with limited on-site sign-ups. That helps manage demand and keep operations stable, but it could make spontaneous, last-minute visits harder for some travelers.

More than a convenience, the city tour is a pilot of Gochang’s ambition to transform from a \”see-and-go\” place to one where visitors stay, spend, and savor. The big question now is whether it will translate into longer stays and measurable economic benefits for the region.
