Why a Canadian Family of Six Chose Korea for a Life-Changing Adventure: Find Out Their Heartwarming Story

Daniel Kim Views

[EPN NP Now reporter Seo Hye-bin] MBC Every1 has released the preview for Welcome, Is This Your First Time in Korea?, spotlighting a six-person family from Montreal, Canada.

Viewers were moved as soon as the trailer dropped, drawn to the story of this Montreal family who came to Korea hoping to show their children—three of whom face a risk of losing their sight—more of the world.

On April 23, MBC Every1 will air an episode of Welcome, Is This Your First Time in Korea? that follows this family’s special trip to Korea.

The group includes father Sebastian, mother Edith, and their four children. Eldest Mia is the caring big sister; Leo, the second-born, is the playful mood-maker; Colin, the third, stands out with a quietly charismatic presence; and youngest Laurent is the family’s adored little one.

Each member brings a distinct personality, and together they grab attention from the very start with unpredictable, lively energy.

They keep their household running with a clear division of labor—Sebastian and Edith share childcare and chores and seem to have a steady rhythm. Still, life with four kids leaves no chance to relax: a single distracted moment can send the house into chaos.

As Edith puts it, “Every moment is a mess.” The episode honestly captures the realities of raising a large family, and the studio hosts responded with heartfelt empathy.

The trip has a poignant purpose: three of the four children have been diagnosed with a rare condition that could lead to vision loss in adulthood. Wanting to give their kids as many experiences as possible, the parents chose Korea as their starting point.

The trailer went viral online almost immediately, amassing high view counts and quickly spreading across platforms.

Viewers commented, “I cried just from the trailer,” “I’m already choked up,” and “You can feel the parents’ desire to show their children more,” sending waves of sympathy and support.

Catch the Montreal family’s blend of laughter and heartfelt moments on MBC Every1’s Welcome, Is This Your First Time in Korea? on April 23 at 8:30 p.m. KST.
