[iNews24 Reporter Kim Sang-jin] The 28th Hampyeong Butterfly Festival in Hampyeong County, South Jeolla, wrapped up on the 5th, closing out a lively 12-day run.

According to county officials on the 6th, this year’s festival—held under the theme “Dreaming Butterflies, the Journey Begins”—moved beyond passive viewing. It emphasized hands-on programs and visitor participation, positioning itself as a participatory ecological festival.

Some 236,000 visitors attended the festival, and ticket revenue reached 830 million KRW (about $622,500).

The local produce market run by residents pulled in 286 million KRW (about $214,500), while vendors at experience booths and concession stands reported roughly 900 million KRW (about $675,000) in sales.

Particularly popular was the “Butterfly Feeding Experience” held daily in the central plaza’s Palangnabi Airdome, which drew long lines throughout the event.

Temporarily opened for the festival, Nabit Park combined outdoor play facilities with indoor experience spaces and became a favorite destination for families.

The festival’s signature “Butterfly Fantasia Parade” packed the audience at every showing, and tasting events showcasing Hampyeong beef and pork, along with promotions for county agricultural products, were met with enthusiastic response.

County Governor Lee Sang-ik expressed deep gratitude to volunteers, public officials and local residents for helping ensure the festival concluded safely.
