Authorities will close roads today, April 7, around Daegu Stadium and across central districts including Suseong-gu, Jung-gu and Dong-gu for the 2024 Daegu Marathon.

Organizers redesigned this year’s race as a loop that circles the entire city, expanding the zone affected by traffic controls and raising the likelihood of widespread congestion on race day. Officials are asking residents to cooperate to minimize delays and have designated the day as a citywide “car-free day.”

For people who must drive for work, key detours include Shincheon-daero and Shincheondong-ro—Daegu’s main north–south thoroughfares—which will remain open. Drivers can also use the Hyomok and Bokhyeon overpasses to travel north–south via Dongbuk-ro and Muyeol-ro.

The Yeonho overpass, which runners will not use, allows north–south travel from Beommul and Jisandong toward Yulha. With the area around Daegu Stadium fully closed, east–west traffic from Siji and Gyeongsan in Suseong-gu headed for Manchon should detour via Gomo-ro. In Dong-gu, the primary alternative routes are Haedong-ro and Hwarang-ro.

Travelers heading to Daegu Airport can detour from Shincheon-daero or Shincheondong-ro via Gyeongdae Bridge or Docheong Bridge and then cross the Airport Bridge to reach the terminal. Detailed, section-by-section detour information is available on the 2024 Daegu Marathon official website.

Kim Dae-young, director of the Transportation Bureau, warned that the course change expands the traffic-control area and could cause heavy congestion downtown on race day. “We have prepared multiple traffic-management measures,” he said, “but we strongly urge residents to refrain from driving and to use the city’s metro system.”
