How Whistle’s Parking Violation Alert Service in Gyeongsangbuk-do Reduces Fines for Drivers

On May 6, Whistle announced it has rolled out a parking-enforcement alert service in Seongju County, North Gyeongsang Province.
The service sends drivers a warning before enforcement begins, encouraging them to move their vehicles. After registering their vehicle details in Whistle’s mobile app, users will receive the same alerts from participating municipal governments.
Seongju County has a high vehicle-to-resident ratio and steady demand for routine traffic management. The new system gives drivers advance notice when they enter enforcement zones, helping to reduce the likelihood of fines.
The county’s mix of agricultural shipping and tourism also shapes traffic patterns. Known as the region’s melon capital, Seongju sees seasonal spikes in visitor vehicles. A local festival in the Seongbak Forest area, scheduled for May 14–17, is expected to increase traffic volumes.
The rollout also allows out-of-area visitors to receive parking-enforcement alerts without any extra settings. Last year, Whistle recorded more than 7.6 million such alerts.
A Whistle spokesperson said, “We expect advance-notice services to be especially effective in places like Seongju, where daily local traffic accounts for a large share of trips. We plan to expand the service to additional regions so more drivers can experience tangible improvements in their everyday mobility.”
