Exploring LA’s New D Line: Your Guide to the Best Stops from Koreatown to Beverly Hills

[Sports Seoul | Reporter Wi Su-jung] A new subway connection now lets riders travel from Los Angeles’ Koreatown to the area near Beverly Hills without transferring. LA Metro has officially opened the first segment of the D Line extension.
The new segment spans about 6.3 km (3.9 miles), extending the line west from the existing Wilshire/Western station in Koreatown. It runs beneath Wilshire Boulevard and passes Hancock Park, Windsor Square and the Fairfax District before reaching the vicinity of Beverly Hills. The extension adds three stations: Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega. It takes roughly 20 minutes to travel from downtown LA’s Union Station to La Cienega station.
Each station provides access to distinct attractions. Wilshire/La Brea sits near the Korean Cultural Center, the Marciano Art Foundation and the restaurant République. Wilshire/Fairfax connects to “Museum Row,” including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the Petersen Automotive Museum, and it’s a gateway to the Original Farmers Market and The Grove. Wilshire/La Cienega opens onto Restaurant Row, surrounded by upscale dining in Beverly Hills, and offers convenient access to the Beverly Center.
The extension is part of the “Twenty-Eight by ’28” initiative to expand transportation infrastructure ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games. Funding for the project came from a voter-approved LA County sales tax, federal grants and infrastructure loans; federal grants alone total roughly 1.9 trillion KRW (approximately 1.425 billion USD).
