2023’s Game-Changer: How Hyundai’s Xcient Hydrogen Truck and Michelin Tires are Redefining Commercial Transport

Michelin has announced that it will supply original equipment (OE) tires for the European export version of Hyundai’s next-generation hydrogen fuel cell truck, the New Xcient.

Set to hit European roads early this year, the New Xcient is a heavy-duty commercial vehicle boasting an impressive range of over 720 kilometers (447 miles) on a single charge. The truck is equipped with a 180 kW hydrogen fuel cell and a robust 350 kW drive motor. To maximize transportation efficiency, it incorporates Level 4 autonomous driving software called “SuperDrive,” developed by the U.S.-based AI company Plus. This cutting-edge technology helped the New Xcient earn a spot on Time magazine’s “Best Inventions of 2025” list last year.

The Michelin X Line Energy tires selected for the New Xcient are specifically designed for long-haul eco-friendly vehicles. These tires achieve the top European rolling resistance grade ‘A’ thanks to their advanced compound formulation and high-durability technology. Michelin claims that the tires minimize energy loss during operation, effectively extending the hydrogen truck’s range and reducing overall operating costs. Additionally, the tires feature self-regenerating tread technology, ensuring consistent safety performance throughout their lifespan.
