Despite the overall decline in sedan sales, the Hyundai Elantra continues to show strong performance. In fact, the model saw an 8% increase in U.S. sales last year, with over 148,000 units sold.

Hyundai is gearing up to launch the eighth-generation Elantra, codenamed CN8, featuring a complete redesign. Recent spy shots captured the vehicle undergoing cold-weather testing alongside other prototypes, hinting at a significant departure from the current model’s design.

The new Elantra’s front end appears taller and more angular. While much of the design remains hidden under camouflage, the distinctive T-shaped LED daytime running lights positioned above rectangular headlights are clearly visible.

The redesigned lower air intake features horizontal bars, while the grille appears more compact compared to the outgoing model.

At the rear, heavy camouflage obscures most details, but vertical taillights and horizontal turn signals are visible, evoking a Cadillac-inspired aesthetic. The new Elantra also sports a rounded rear bumper and a prominent spoiler.

While the interior remains concealed, the new Elantra is expected to feature Hyundai’s advanced Pleos infotainment system. Unveiled last year, this Android Automotive-based platform boasts a smartphone-like interface and AI capabilities.

Details on the powertrain options remain limited, but industry insiders expect similarities with the recently launched Kia K4. The base model will likely feature a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 147 horsepower (110 kW) and 132 lb-ft (179 Nm) of torque.

An optional 1.6-liter turbocharged engine delivering 190 horsepower (142 kW) and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque is also anticipated.

Hyundai is also expected to introduce HYBErid and high-performance N variants of the new Elantra. While test mules of the Elantra N were spotted earlier this year, they revealed little about the upcoming model.

Industry sources suggest that the new Elantra may also be introduced to the European market. The redesigned model is slated to debut in South Korea within the first half of this year, with a global rollout to follow.
