Beginning in early 2026, Michelin’s X Line Energy tires will be fitted as OE tires on European export models of the New Xcient Fuel Cell truck.
The New Xcient Fuel Cell is equipped with a 180 kW hydrogen fuel cell system and a 350 kW electric motor, enabling it to travel over 720 km on a single charge when fully loaded. This heavy-duty commercial vehicle from Hyundai integrates its hydrogen electric platform with Level 4 autonomous driving software called SuperDrive, developed by PlusAI, a U.S.-based autonomous trucking technology company. This combination enhances the truck’s eco-friendly advantages – such as rapid refueling, long-range capability, and zero-emission operation – while significantly improving transport efficiency and safety. Recently, the truck was recognized as one of Time magazine’s Best Inventions of 2025.
The X Line Energy tires are high-efficiency products optimized for long-haul transportation. They help reduce operating costs in the trucking industry through exceptional fuel efficiency and durability. These tires feature compounds that achieve very low rolling resistance and robust carcass technology, meeting Europe’s highest rolling resistance rating of A. By minimizing energy loss during operation, they substantially improve the fuel economy of commercial vehicles, resulting in both cost savings and environmental benefits through reduced carbon emissions. Moreover, the tires boast a sturdy construction and self-repairing tread patterns, incorporating cutting-edge technology to ensure longevity and safe driving throughout their lifespan.
Michel, CEO of Michelin Korea, stated, “It’s a significant milestone for Michelin, a company long committed to energy efficiency and sustainable energy transition, to supply tires for Hyundai Motor’s latest hydrogen electric truck, a pioneer in the global hydrogen industry. Michelin continues to offer solutions and services that address the evolving technological needs of the commercial vehicle sector, delivering exceptional performance and energy efficiency while ensuring economic viability, environmental sustainability, and safety.”
