Michelin has announced it will supply original equipment (OE) tires for Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen fuel cell truck, the New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck.

Beginning in early 2026, Michelin X Line Energy tires will be fitted as OE tires on European-bound models of Hyundai’s New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck.

The New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck is Hyundai’s heavy-duty commercial vehicle, equipped with a 180 kW hydrogen fuel cell system and a 350 kW drive motor. It boasts an impressive range of over 720 km (447 miles) on a single charge when fully loaded.

The truck combines Hyundai’s hydrogen electric platform with Plus AI’s Level 4 autonomous driving software, Super Drive. This integration enhances the eco-friendly benefits of hydrogen fuel cell technology – such as rapid refueling, long-range capability, and zero emissions – while improving transportation efficiency and safety through autonomous driving features. These advancements recently earned the truck a spot on Time magazine’s “Best Inventions of 2025” list.

The Michelin X Line Energy tire is engineered for long-haul transport, offering exceptional fuel efficiency and durability to help reduce operating costs in the trucking industry. It features a compound that delivers ultra-low rolling resistance and robust carcass technology, achieving Europe’s top A-grade rolling resistance rating. By minimizing energy loss during operation, these tires significantly boost fuel economy for commercial vehicles. This not only cuts fuel expenses but also provides environmental benefits through reduced carbon emissions. Moreover, the tire’s sturdy construction and self-regenerating tread pattern incorporate cutting-edge technology to ensure longevity and consistent safety throughout its lifespan.

Michelle Zhu, CEO of Michelin Korea, commented, “Supplying Michelin tires for Hyundai Motor’s cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell truck, a global leader in hydrogen technology, marks a significant milestone for Michelin. We’ve long been committed to energy efficiency and sustainable energy transition, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050.” She added, “Michelin continues to offer solutions and services that not only meet economic and environmental needs but also prioritize safety. We achieve this through superior performance and energy efficiency, keeping pace with the evolving technologies in the commercial vehicle sector.”
