Genesis has announced plans to introduce a dedicated electric platform by 2027, marking a significant step towards establishing its own identity within the Hyundai Motor Group.

As the brand celebrates its 10th anniversary, Genesis is positioning the next decade as a period of transformation from a luxury brand to a true premium marque.

At the heart of this evolution lies the next-generation dedicated electric platform. This move signifies more than just an expansion of electric offerings; it represents a commitment to redefine the brand’s identity from the ground up.

Overcoming Shared Platform Limitations

Redefining Premium Standards

Currently, most of Genesis’ electric vehicle lineup is based on Hyundai Motor Group’s shared platforms. While Genesis already utilizes the rear-wheel-drive M3 platform, it fundamentally relies on the third-generation architecture shared across the Hyundai Motor Group.

However, Genesis has recognized the limitations of shared platforms in delivering the driving dynamics, refinement, structural rigidity, and suspension tuning that premium customers expect.

A European executive stated, “A dedicated platform is essential to achieve the brand’s unique driving characteristics,” underscoring the necessity for an independent approach.

Refining Electrification Strategy

Shifting from EV-only to a Pragmatic Approach

Genesis has also adopted a more flexible electrification strategy. Initially targeting a full transition to battery electric vehicles by 2030, the company has recently pivoted to a diversified approach that includes HYBE lead and Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs).

The first HYBE lead model is slated for 2026, with EREV technology following in 2027. The EREV models aim to achieve over 900 km (560 miles) of range on a single charge and fuel fill-up. This strategic shift reflects a response to global disparities in charging infrastructure and consumer needs.

The GV90, a large electric SUV nearing production, is expected to be the first model to utilize the next-generation platform. Additionally, an off-road-oriented large SUV and an ultra-luxury concept model are likely to join the future portfolio.

A high-performance strategy will run parallel to these developments. Starting with the GV60 Magma, Genesis plans to expand its high-performance derivative models across both sedan and SUV lineups, enhancing both electrification and performance capabilities.

By 2030, Genesis aims to enter 20 European markets and targets annual sales of 350,000 units, positioning itself for growth as a global luxury brand.
