Why the Hyundai Xcient Hydrogen Truck with Michelin Tires is a Game Changer for Eco-Friendly Transport

Michelin announced on October 10 that it will supply original equipment (OE) tires for Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen fuel cell truck, the New Xcient Fuel Cell.

Beginning in early 2026, Michelin’s X Line Energy tires will be fitted as OE tires on European export models of Hyundai’s New Xcient Fuel Cell truck.

The New Xcient Fuel Cell is Hyundai’s heavy-duty commercial vehicle, equipped with a 180 kW hydrogen fuel cell system and a 350 kW electric motor. It boasts an impressive range of over 720 km on a single charge, even when fully loaded.

The truck combines Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell platform with PlusAI’s Level 4 autonomous driving software, “SuperDrive.” This integration enhances the eco-friendly benefits of hydrogen fuel cell technology – such as rapid refueling, long-range capability, and zero-emission operation – while significantly improving transportation efficiency and safety through autonomous driving features.

Michelin’s X Line Energy tire is specifically designed for long-haul transport, offering high efficiency and helping to reduce fleet operating costs through excellent fuel efficiency and durability. The tire incorporates a compound that achieves very low rolling resistance and robust durability technology, earning it the top “A” rating for rolling resistance in Europe.
