Motional, Hyundai Motor Group’s autonomous-driving joint venture, is launching an IONIQ 5-based robo-taxi pilot in Las Vegas in partnership with Uber.
The service will operate along Las Vegas Boulevard, serving nearby hotels, Resorts World Las Vegas, downtown, and the Town Square commercial district. Coverage will expand over time.

Same fares as standard rides

When a customer requests a ride through the Uber app and the trip falls inside the service zone, the system will automatically assign an IONIQ 5 robo-taxi.
Passengers pay the same fare as a standard Uber ride and can request reassignment to a conventional vehicle if they prefer. After the vehicle arrives, riders can unlock the door and board using the app. The app also provides voice guidance and an option to connect to a live agent.

Motional’s robo-taxi, built on the IONIQ 5 platform co-developed with Hyundai Motor Group, employs SAE Level 4 autonomous driving technology and complies with U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
During the pilot, a safety operator will remain in the driver’s seat to ensure secure operations.

Under the 10-year strategic partnership signed in 2022, Motional and Uber are pushing toward commercial deployment of autonomous ride services.
Motional will collect rider feedback and operational data during the pilot, refine the service, and aims to launch a fully driverless robo-taxi service by year-end.
