‘We’re partners’ — Hyundai Motor Group to deploy NVIDIA Level 2 autonomous driving technology

[Korea Financial Times, Reporter Kim Jae-hoon] Hyundai Motor Group will proactively introduce NVIDIA’s Level 2 autonomous driving system in select models and plans to broaden cooperation on next-generation autonomous driving over the medium and long term.
On March 16 (Pacific Time), Hyundai Motor Company and Kia said they will expand a strategic partnership with NVIDIA across future mobility areas, including autonomous driving and software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
The companies will combine Hyundai and Kia’s in-house SDV capabilities with NVIDIA’s autonomous-driving technologies to jointly develop next-generation driving solutions. Hyundai and Kia, which are developing SDV platforms with a focus on quality and safety, will initially apply NVIDIA’s Level 2 and above autonomous-driving technologies to certain models.
Over the medium to long term, the partnership is expected to expand toward Level 4 robotaxi capabilities. Centered on Motional, the U.S.-based autonomous-driving joint venture, the companies will begin comprehensive talks to refine Level 4 robotaxi technology and strengthen competitiveness in both technology and service offerings.
Hyundai Motor Group says the deeper collaboration with NVIDIA is a strategic move to accelerate efforts to bring autonomous-driving expertise in-house.
To support that goal, the group will adopt NVIDIA DRIVE HYPERION and build a unified architecture that can scale from Level 2 up to Level 4 autonomous driving.
Hyperion is a reference design that bundles high-performance central processing units (CPUs), graphics processing units (GPUs), sensors, cameras and other hardware essential for autonomous driving. Combining this standard reference with Hyundai Motor Group’s engineering experience as a top global automaker will enable the company to develop an optimized SDV architecture internally.
The strategic partnership with NVIDIA should also accelerate the group’s AI integration. With Hyperion, Hyundai Motor Group plans to create a virtuous data cycle: collecting multimodal data (images, language, behavior), training AI and improving performance, deploying models to vehicles, and enhancing data quality.
In addition, Hyundai Motor Group will leverage NVIDIA’s extensive data and AI capabilities to consolidate data gathered across the group into a single training pipeline.
Over the long term, the group expects high-performance AI to autonomously collect, learn from and structure high-quality real-world driving data, boosting Hyundai Motor Group’s competitive edge in autonomous driving.
Ultimately, the company’s goal is to internalize best-in-class autonomous driving technologies and deliver them to customers. Alongside partnerships with global tech firms, Hyundai will continue in-house R&D to strengthen its global position in autonomous driving across multiple fronts.

Rishi Dall, vice president of NVIDIA’s automotive division, said, “By combining Hyundai Motor Group’s vehicle engineering expertise with NVIDIA’s computing and AI technologies, we are building a safe, intelligent autonomous driving system. We will continue collaboration across advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) from Level 2 and above through to robotaxis.”
