[The Guru = Reporter Kim Ye-ji] Hyundai Motor is bolstering its local presence in Rüsselsheim am Main, Germany — home to its European R&D hub — by delivering work vehicles to city hall for official duties. This marks the first time the company has supplied municipal service vehicles in the city and reinforces the partnership between the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center and the local community, while strengthening the brand’s credibility in a traditional German auto town.

On March 18, Hyundai Motor said its German unit, Hyundai Motor Deutschland (HMD), delivered three vehicles for a city-hall staff pool. The lineup includes the Staria HYBE Lead, the Kona Electric, and the i30 Wagon — models that highlight Hyundai’s electrified drivetrains and flexible interior packaging. City officials will use the vehicles for business trips and official duties.

The delivery carries symbolic weight because it shifts Hyundai’s cooperation with local government in Rüsselsheim — a city long linked to the auto industry — into a tangible commercial relationship. Rüsselsheim has traditionally been dominated by local brand Opel, but by securing this public-fleet contract Hyundai has further proven its credibility in municipal procurement.

Andreas Zürnstein, head of Hyundai Motor Deutschland, said Rüsselsheim, home to the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC), is a vital region and a key employment hub for the company. He added that the vehicle supply will allow city-hall staff to experience Hyundai’s technology and comfort firsthand.

Hyundai has maintained a presence in Rüsselsheim for more than 20 years since opening its European Technical Center there in 2003. In November, the company opened the Square Campus after investing about €150 million (approximately $160,500,000) — about 250 billion KRW (approximately $187,500,000) — to add the group’s largest semi-anechoic chamber and an EV charging laboratory. The campus boosts NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) testing and ADAS electronics development, accelerating R&D targeted at the European market.

Patrick Burghardt, mayor of Rüsselsheim, called Hyundai “a major local company and a trusted partner,” saying the collaboration demonstrates the close, trust-based relationship between the automaker and city hall.
