Kookmin University said on March 19 that it held a March 13 graduation for the fourth cohort of its Future Automotive Experts Training Program, run jointly with General Motors Technical Center Korea (GM TCK). The nine-week program was designed to bolster core future-vehicle competencies among GM TCK employees and graduated 20 participants.
The program was developed by Kookmin’s College of Automotive Mobility in cooperation with the Future Automotive Project Group at the College of Innovation and Convergence. The curriculum covered autonomous driving control system design, computer architecture and real-time operating systems, microprocessor applications, automotive control systems, automotive artificial intelligence and mobility cybersecurity. Instruction consisted of six weeks of classroom lectures followed by three weeks of hands-on labs. Participants studied intensively while living in university-provided dormitories.
About 55 guests attended the ceremony, including Seung-ryeol Jung, president of Kookmin University; Brian McMurray, director of General Motors Technical Center Korea (GM TCK); and Shin Seong-hwan, dean of the College of Automotive Mobility. The program featured a presidential address, remarks by the GM TCK representative, a speech from a graduating student, certificate and excellence award presentations, and a group photo. Certificates were presented to all 20 graduates, and five top performers received excellence awards and plaques.
As it marks its 80th anniversary, Kookmin operates Korea’s only standalone College of Automotive Mobility and a graduate school focused on automotive mobility. The university concentrates on developing talent in autonomous driving, electrification and software-centric mobility technologies. Kookmin says it will continue to set new standards in future-vehicle education and to share and expand its related achievements.
