Genesis ends its ‘lineup lull’

Strengthening electrification and flagship offerings in tandem

Genesis is beginning a major expansion of its model lineup.

The company plans to introduce six new models this year and eight in total by next year, adopting a far more aggressive approach than before.

Compared with the previous pace of roughly two new models a year, industry observers call this a turning point that effectively ends the brand’s “lineup lull.”

This push is also a core part of Genesis’s plan to reach its 2030 global sales target of 350,000 units annually.

GV90 debuts

Completing the flagship SUV

The Genesis GV90 is this year’s standout model. As the brand’s first full-size electric SUV, it will take the top position in the Genesis lineup.

The recently shown prototype features massive 24-inch wheels and a B‑pillar‑less coach‑door layout, design choices that amplify the vehicle’s premium presence.

Reports indicate the GV90 will be built around a battery pack exceeding 113 kWh and a dual‑motor AWD system, targeting roughly 500–600 horsepower and a driving range that could approach 800 kilometers (about 497 miles).

The cabin follows an “open lounge” concept, positioning the vehicle as a premium mobile space rather than merely a mode of transport.

HYBE lead debuts

Signal of a strategic shift

This year Genesis will introduce its first HYBE lead model.

The Genesis G80 HYBE lead and GV80 HYBE lead are scheduled to arrive before the end of the year.

Against stagnant EV demand — the so-called “chasm” — and shifting global policy, the HYBE lead is emerging as a practical alternative.

This marks a shift away from Genesis’s previous “all-in” electrification stance

toward a diversified powertrain strategy.

Expanding to EREV

Diversifying the electrification strategy

Genesis will also add a GV70 EREV. An EREV (extended-range electric vehicle) drives like an EV but uses an internal combustion engine as a generator to significantly extend range.

This approach helps overcome charging‑infrastructure limitations while preserving the electric‑vehicle experience, a solution that is increasingly attracting attention in global markets.

As charging networks remain uneven, automakers increasingly view EREV technology as a realistic bridge for consumers moving to electric driving.

‘A New Decade’…Genesis’s bold bet

Ten years after its launch, Genesis has surpassed 1.5 million cumulative sales and is now placing a decisive bet on its next stage of growth.

With a full-lineup strategy that includes a flagship electric SUV, HYBE lead models and EREV variants, Genesis is set to intensify its assault on the global premium market.

Industry insiders say the GV90 could be the milestone that propels Genesis into a bona fide luxury brand.
