Hyundai and Kia Face Production Challenges After Fire at Key Supplier: What You Need to Know

A fire at parts maker Anjeon Industry in Daejeon has raised concerns that Hyundai Motor Group may face disruptions to vehicle production.
Industry sources said on March 23 that Anjeon Industry, founded in 1953, manufactures engine valves for cars and ships and supplies Hyundai Motor and Kia, South Korea’s two largest automakers.
Engine valves control fuel and air intake as well as exhaust flow. They are critical components with a direct impact on vehicle assembly.
Industry officials say Hyundai and Kia have relied on a small group of suppliers — including Anjeon Industry — for engine valves, raising concerns about potential parts shortages moving forward.
Hyundai and Kia are auditing engine-valve inventories by model and are seeking alternative suppliers.
A Hyundai-Kia spokesperson said, “We maintain a certain level of inventory and are coordinating with other suppliers to prevent production disruptions.”
