Kia PV5 WAV: The Game-Changer for Accessible EV Mobility in 2026

Kia said on March 24 that it has forged a strategic partnership with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to deploy the PV5 WAV to improve mobility for people with disabilities and to expand electric-vehicle charging infrastructure across the city.

The PV5 WAV, derived from Kia’s first dedicated PBV, the PV5, is designed to enhance passenger accessibility. It is the first electric vehicle in South Korea to use a side-entry layout, improving the safety and convenience of boarding and alighting for wheelchair users compared with conventional entry methods.

Under the agreement, Kia and Seoul plan to use the PV5 WAV to deliver tangible mobility improvements for people with disabilities and to promote wider adoption of eco-friendly mobility options in local communities.

Initially, Kia will offer a special purchase subsidy for PV5 WAVs to social-welfare facilities in Seoul and to Seoul residents with family members who have disabilities. The subsidy provides up to KRW 800,000 (about $600) toward the Power Door I option (right-side smart power sliding door and smart power tailgate) and a KRW 200,000 (about $150) EV charging credit to help reduce owners’ operating costs.

A Kia spokesperson said, “The PV5 WAV reflects Kia’s commitment to deliver greater freedom of movement not only for wheelchair users but also for their families, caregivers and drivers. We hope this partnership with the City of Seoul will make a practical contribution to safer, more convenient mobility for people with disabilities.”
