2026 International e-Mobility Expo: Key Insights on EV Trends and AI Energy Transition

The 13th International e-Mobility Expo (IEVE 2026) opened on March 25, kicking off focused discussions on electric vehicles (EVs) and the energy transition. This year’s program places particular emphasis on business-to-business (B2B) activities, with organizers seeking to translate talks into concrete outcomes.
 
Launched in 2014, the International e-Mobility Expo runs four days at Jeju Shinhwa World through March 27. Last year more than 500 organizations from the U.S., China, Japan, Italy, Norway and elsewhere participated, and total attendance reached about 40,000, cementing the event’s reputation as a major e-mobility forum.
 
The expo’s organizing committee said it will center this year on AI-driven energy transition and the future of e-mobility amid the digital transformation, positioning the event as a mobility-governance platform to shape a shared future for the next generation.
 
On site, the program featured numerous e-mobility forums and business networking luncheons. Delegates also proposed reviving the Pyongyang International Electric Vehicle Expo (PIEVE), which was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the second half of next year.
 
Specifically, organizers proposed staging the event in September across multiple locations, including Pyongyang, the Galma district of Wonsan and Samjiyeon. To prepare, they plan to form a privately led steering committee in April to recruit participating companies, universities and research institutes. From March next year, inter-Korean discussions will begin on shipping exhibits and coordinating installations.

At a related roundtable, Hwang Woo-hyun, a professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, estimated the total budget at about 11.5 billion KRW (approximately $8,625,000). He said a privately led effort supported by public backing could help build a Northeast Asian EV-industry model and contribute to meeting climate goals.
 
The expo also hosted talks to strengthen Korea-China cooperation on global e-mobility. The Korea-China Automotive Journalists Association and the Global e-Mobility Association (GEAN) signed an MOU to promote industry development and expand exchanges. The organizations will continue information sharing and joint activities to solidify their strategic partnership.
 
Kim Dae-hwan, chair of the International e-Mobility Expo organizing committee, said it was the first time in seven years that representatives from 50 countries had gathered at the expo. \”Using the Pyongyang EV expo as a starting point, we aim to advance electrification from India and the United Arab Emirates to South Africa,\” he said.
