Nissan has revealed a midcycle refresh for the 2027 Z, updating styling and performance to sharpen its appeal. The changes follow a facelift introduced in Japan and will be applied to the U.S. lineup as well.

The update is notable because many automakers are retreating from the sports-car market. Nissan, by contrast, is keeping the Z alive and improving it.

Industry observers say the freshened Z could play a key role in the shrinking segment for affordably priced sports cars.

Design leans into retro cues

Changes are concentrated at the front end. A split, retro-style grille and revised bumper echo the Datsun-era Z models that inspired the original design language.

A new color, “Shinkai Green Pearl Metallic,” joins the palette and is offered with a black roof to emphasize a classic look. Nissan also replaces the front badge with a standalone “Z” emblem.

Those styling updates are functional as well: Nissan reworked airflow and cooling passages to improve thermal management and efficiency.

Performance upgrades sharpen driving feel

The mid-level Performance trim now rolls on 19-inch forged wheels and gets revised suspension tuning. Larger-diameter monotube dampers are fitted to strike a better balance between ride comfort and cornering control.

Nissan also revised the fuel-tank layout to ensure consistent fuel delivery during high-g cornering.

Collectively, the tweaks aim to deliver more confidence on public roads and track-like stability when the driving gets spirited.

Manual added to Nismo

Until now, Nismo was offered only with a nine-speed automatic, which frustrated some enthusiasts. Nissan has responded by adding a manual gearbox to the Nismo lineup.

Nissan also sharpened throttle response from the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 to give a more immediate, connected feel at the accelerator.

The car borrows braking hardware from the GT‑R to boost stopping power and sheds roughly 19 pounds through selective light‑weighting measures.

Nissan also refined the steering system, cutting internal friction by about 20% to deliver a crisper, more precise steering feel.

Nissan plans to unveil the 2027 Z at the New York Auto Show and start full sales this summer.

Nissan hasn’t released final pricing. Analysts expect a starting price near $43,000 — roughly 64,000,000 KRW — similar to the current model.

With the Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 slated to end production, industry watchers say the Nissan Z is well positioned to be a meaningful alternative in the sports-car market for the coming years.
