A South Korean mobility startup is drawing attention with a self‑balancing electric motorcycle it developed. The company says it tapped aerospace technology to give the bike an innovative self‑stabilizing capability.
OMOWAY’s Omo‑X is equipped with a control moment gyroscope (CMG) — the same gyroscopic technology used to control the attitude of satellites and spacecraft.
The CMG lets the chassis automatically correct for tilt, keeping the motorcycle upright and delivering a stable ride even on uneven, seesaw‑like surfaces.
The company also fitted the bike with advanced safety systems. Onboard cameras and multiple sensors monitor the surroundings in real time. If a hazard is detected, the motorcycle brakes immediately and alerts the rider by showing approaching vehicles from the rear on the display.
Smart features are part of the package: riders can summon the vehicle using a smartphone app, and the system supports automated parking. A digital‑key function also allows owners to share the vehicle with other users.
On performance, the Omo‑X is competitive: it tops out at 110 km/h (about 68 mph) and offers an estimated range of roughly 200 km (about 124 miles) on a single charge.
OMOWAY said it plans to price the Omo‑X in the 5 million KRW range (approximately $3,750). Preorders open at the end of April, with a formal launch scheduled for May.
