Woo Sang-ho, the Democratic Party’s preliminary candidate for governor of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, visited the KCL e-Mobility Campus in Hoengseong on March 26. It was the second day of his “Wonju–Hoengseong” field policy tour, and he used the visit to map out a more concrete industrial strategy for Gangwon.
At the campus, Woo and center officials reviewed the current state of the mobility sector and explored how those capabilities could be extended into physical AI — a core area of robotics development.
Woo said battery and motor technologies, which are central to modern mobility, share operating principles with physical-AI robots. He emphasized that, beyond serving as a testing and certification center, Hoengseong should be developed into a regional hub connecting Gangwon’s mobility and AI-robotics industries.
He described the mobility and robotics sectors as key growth engines for Gangwon and pledged to actively recruit promising companies that can generate synergies across those fields.
The e-Mobility Campus in Hoengseong houses the country’s largest integrated testing and evaluation infrastructure for e-mobility. The facility supports production for special-purpose light commercial vehicles, conducts battery defect and safety analyses and testing, and performs electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing and other evaluations.
After the campus visit, Woo stopped at Hoengseong’s five-day market to speak with vendors and local residents as part of his on-the-ground outreach. On March 27, the final day of the policy tour, he is scheduled to visit Samyang Foods’ Wonju plant (Usan General Industrial Complex) and Wonju’s five-day market to gather further input from the field.
