Use of the Fortune Bus, a shuttle reserved for middle- and high-school students in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, has climbed steadily, significantly improving local students’ commutes.
According to Bus Management System (BMS) data released on the 28th, Fortune Bus ridership rose across all routes in the fourth quarter compared with the second quarter of 2025. The Soheul route increased from 1,588 to 2,024 riders, while the Pocheon route surged about 54%, from 2,243 to 3,457 — the largest gain.
The Fortune Bus operates as a student shuttle loop timed to school hours to serve areas with limited public transit. Currently, two vehicles run across three routes: Pocheon, Soheul, and Pocheon–Soheul.
Ridership on the Pocheon–Soheul line has also continued to grow.
The service tailors schedules to individual schools’ dismissal times and designs routes to connect key hubs, increasing convenience for students.
It has reduced long wait times and the travel difficulties students faced on regular city buses, providing a more reliable commute and boosting satisfaction among students and parents.
One student who rides the Fortune Bus said, “Taking the city bus used to take too long and was exhausting, but the dedicated shuttle has made my commute much more reliable and convenient.”
Pocheon City is advancing the “Pocheon EduRoad” initiative, which includes the Fortune Bus and a smart safety loop bus called “Po-Uri.” The city plans to concentrate administrative resources on narrowing educational gaps between areas and creating a student-centered, safe learning environment.
